Flexible cystoscopy

Since the birth of my chuck, I have struggled with passing urine. I’ve finally plucked up the courage to go to the drs and I’ve been referred etc and have to have the above procedure....
The consultant asked me if I wanted local or general anaesthetic... I opted for local due to child care but am I making the right call? Anyone had this done and could advice?

I had it under local. They put a numbing gel on your urethra. I had no pain when I had the procedure so coped ok with it. It's a strange feeling. They filled me with liquid which is a strange feeling. Going for a wee might be a bit stingy for a couple of days. I was diagnosed with painful bladder syndrome/Interstitial Cystitis. If I'd had pain anywhere down there before the procedure it would have been a lot harder. Good luck x

I've just had flexible cystoscopy and it was absolutely fine, stings a bit to wee after but nothing else. X

Sadly it's a chronic condition with no cure, just medication to try and ease any pain. X

I've had one, it's a piece of piss (no pun intended) 😬

No more invasive I found than a smear. I wasn't offered an anaesthetic, they put lubricant on the camera thingy when it goes in and it does smart a little bit but once it's in it's not at all uncomfortable. they have a little look around and then it's all over. I found the first wee I could feel something slightly amiss but I wouldn't go as far as to say it hurt.

You'll be fine op. I worried myself silly about mine but I wouldn't if I had to have another.

Thanks so much for your replies... when I saw the diagram they’ve sent me 😵😵 it makes me cross my legs really hard, hopefully I’ll have a similar experience!

Hey! I’m having a cystoscopy under a GA in a few weeks but I wasn’t given the option to have it under local so I assume I’m having a rigid one? I’m not really sure of the difference but the flexibile one sounds a little kinder!

I’m very similar to you @woodyy23, my problems started after childbirth!

I had one years ago, bit of numbing gel on the urethra so it's a bit uncomfortable going in, but nothing awful. Odd sensation, they filled my bladder with water but also some air, so when I peed afterwards I actually farted out of my peehole. Blush

Not something I nor the person in the next door cubicle ever expected to hear, lemme tell ya. Never got a diagnosis either.

The hospital have rung me and offered general now anyway. Sorted it all with work and and now it will be rescheduled. Not sure if I’m less or more nervous! Thanks for all your replies they’ve been really helpful xx

Hi, did you recover from IC, if so, what was the treatment? Thank you.
