Periods after childbirth

This message contains tmi so please dont read if your easily put off your dinner.

Today ive had my first period since having dd 14 weeks ago. For 2-3 weeks after having DD when ever I was stood up I used to get a heavy, throbbing sensation down below, the feeling was around the clitoris area. I put it down at the time to being sore and bruised and the feeling soon went. But since getting my period the pain has come back, today I noticed that if I was stood up and not walking I had exactly the same feeling. My tummy doesnt hurt, its just around my clitoris. Has anyone experienced something similar? and do they know why I could be hurting in the area I am. I cant see how having a period has started this feeling again as surely periods and clitoris arent connected. At times I cant stand up for long due to the pain.

I'm sorry to hear taht kbaby. I would say that I ache a lot, and it was particularly painful after exercising. I was going to post a similar question myself, so I look forward to other responses

have also experienced something similar at 26 weeks post birth, which took me by surprise. no answers I am afraid, just commiserations. i guess all you can do is try to take it easy, not walk about too much during your period!

I sometimes get a heavy throbbing sensation around the vagina during periods but I think I had it before any babies. Sometimes it is so bad, I need painkillers. I don't know anything about this but I am sure I read another thread in the last day or two that was a similar problem to this and everyone seemed to think it was a prolapsed womb. Sorry I can't find it for you or provide a link but you might like to look it up yourself.

could it be just the pressure of your uterus (isn't it lower at menstruation then moves back up?) - can't imagine why it would be painful though presumably just "throbby and uncomfortable".

is it a 'go to see the doctor' thing do you think? Or will it get better (ds is 9mo)?

Since having dd1 4 years ago I have had an thobbing/acke during periods that felt just like i was recovering from the birth. Came back with a vengence after dd2 last year and is still there now mildly. I got checked for a prolapsed womb or internal problems due to birth and everything was fine. Thats not to say that you should'nt get it checked out if it is that bad. I'm just putting mine down to having babies now.

I had that pain for a while. Have you done your PELVIC FLOOR EXERCISES???????? That's what my midwife recommended and it worked.

monkeygirl · 08/09/2004 11:42

I had exactly the same pain, usually when I was lying down, after dd1 and unfortunately it lasted several months but it did go away. I had a baby nearly 13 weeks ago and I've got exactly the same pain again . I'd be interested to hear what your doctor says!

kbaby · 09/09/2004 17:57

i started doing pelvic floor exercises after dd was born but havent done them for a while. Maybe ill start them again
