Raised lymph node in neck

Hi
I'm 34 and last Monday I felt a lump on my neck, on the right hand side near the back so its really hard to see but I just came across it. At first I wasn't too worried but recently I have suffered a bit with anxiety, so I have kept feeling it over the last week and have unfortunately googled which I know is the wrong thing to do. It seems to go up and down in size at different times of the day.
I had a doctors appointment yesterday just to come away and he said it is a raised lymph node, he checked other areas for raised nodes - under arm, chest and groin and couldn't feel any others. I said I had a cold about 3 weeks ago and have felt coldy on and off since he said it is probably that and to try and not feel it but to check it in 4 weeks and if it is still there to go back.
He asked when I last had bloods done, I said I never have, he has booked me in for bloods next week, said he isn't concerned but theres no harm in having a general MOT.
He said the lymph node feels smooth, he said he spends everyday checking people for cancer and he is an anxious doctor but he doesn't feel worried. He said when I google it will come up with lymphoma but not to google.
He asked about any other symptoms, night sweats, loss of appetite, weight loss etc which I haven't had. At night I do sometimes get quite hot but I don't think that's night sweats??
I just feel really scared today... it could have been there a long time and I haven't noticed, what if its something bad or my bloods come back showing something bad? Anything to do with health really makes my anxiety worse at the moment.
Any advise/thoughts would really help!

I had a lymph node come up In my neck about 5 years ago. It was very tender, so much so that I couldn't wear a necklace. When it still hadn't gone down after 4 weeks, I saw the GP. She thought I was just a bit run down but referred me for an ultrasound scan because the lymph node was still painful. I waited 6 weeks for the scan which showed no problem whatsoever. It took another 2 months for the lymph node to go down and I've had no reoccurring problem with it. I think you'll find that it's fine. Hope this helps!

I’ve got one behind my ear it’s like a little pea. It came up when I wasn’t ill but I was feeling run down, went down and then came up again. I’ve had it checked out three times now (doctors felt all around my neck/head/collarbone) and been told it’s absolutely fine and even though it feels big to me it’s tiny.
I have noticed it has gone down some more now that I haven’t been constantly prodding it!

I've just recovered from a lymph node in exactly that location swelling hugely and very painfully. In my case I knew it was a result of a medical treatment that I have (which produces an immune response that produces gubbins that the lymph system then has to flush away) and so I wasn't worried even though it was so sore.

I would say that you have no reason to worry at all. Lymph nodes swell up all the time, just as a consequence of doing their job. I also get coldsores from time to time and they always make lymph nodes at the front of my neck swell a bit and become tender

It's great that you are having a general checkover just in case there are any issues. But please don't feel worried.
