Help! Stray tampon crisis

I’m so anxious. Finished my period 4 days ago and today went to the loo and a penny sized bit of cotton came out (looking rather gross). I immediately thought OMG I’ve left a tampon in so went digging around and found nothing other than a few bits of cotton.
In a total panic I went to an emergency drop in at the hospital.
I was so embarrassed but to be honest in such a panic by this stage that I just wanted them to have a look and find it.
Problem is, other than a few more small bits of degraded cotton they didn’t find it.
Would they definately be able to see it? Or is it hiding up there?
I’ve got myself so worked up, I have a cold and I’m all aches and pains and have really bad headache but of course no matter how much I’m trying to be rational I keep think TSS.
Sorry ... I sound totally nuts! But if anyone has any advice I’d be really grateful.

Oh goodness! If you've been to the hospital and they can't find it, it's unlikely it's there...

If it was there they would have found it. I wouldn’t worry dp once left one up there for 2 weeks and had no idea until It ‘removed itself’ one day, she was fine!

They would have found it. I lost one a few months ago and it fell out during the next period, so had been lodged for over a month.

I'd looked for it as I couldn't remember removing it but assumed it had been taken out. I was wrong there were no symptoms at all though.
