The whole of the RHS of my head hurts.

I can't eat properly.

Food tastes funny.

And DP made me swill some soluble paracetamol and co-codomol around my mouth and I suspect that it doesn't agree with me as my stomach now feels dodgy as well.

Ow!!!!

corsodyl - over the counter mouthwash is the best thing I have ever used for mouth ulcers and I am prone to them

hope it gets better - its miserable isn't it

SconesandMajesticSandwiches · 04/07/2007 21:54

I suspect swilling oral painkillers around your mouth won't actually help.

Also you shouldn't take co-codamol and paracetamol together (co-codamol contains paracetamol)

Have you got any anbesol? That is supposed to be the bees knees for mouth ulcers

FlamingTomatoes · 04/07/2007 21:55

Put some soap on it

tangarine · 04/07/2007 21:55

Ouch. I get a lot of mouth ulcers too, especially if I'm run down.

It might be an old wive's tale, but I was recently recommended Marmite for mouth ulcers (dab a bit on a cotton bud and apply direct). As I'm one of those people who gag at the sight of the jar itself before I even get a whiff of it, I didn't bother to experiment. But the friend who told me about it swears by it .

Hope it clears up soon.

Oh much sympathy from me, i was plagued by the awful things when i was a child, and i still bear actual scars from the blighters!

This is extreme and may be wrong advice, but i put salt on them, hurts like hell but helps them heal quicker imo.

Katymac · 04/07/2007 21:57

Soluble asprin might work but not paracetamol

Be careful of corsadyl - it can make some ulcers worse

Adcortyl in oral base works - but will take ages to go

Gargling with very hot very salty water does help - but not with pain only with healing

Make sure you have plenty of Vit b's

JonesTheSteam · 04/07/2007 22:10

No anbesol here - have used it a long time ago so I know it's good - but couldn't get out today to get some as have been looking after my nephew who is not well and it was tipping down.

Only have bonjela - it's not really doing much good.

OP posts:
chevre · 04/07/2007 22:16

i have used salt in the past through desperation. doesn't do any harm. i used oraldene a few weeks ago and it really did the trick.

bonjela is shite. you have my total sympathy. i get the bastards on my tongue.

miggy · 04/07/2007 22:21

mucho sympathy, had hideous one a few weeks ago, whole side of my fave hurt. made me cry I was so sorry for myself! Found some FABULOUS stuff in boots, cant remember the name but its a single application and works like superglue, covers up the ulcer. Truely really worked, hurt like stink for 5 minutes (temporary stinging-yeah right!) but then magically pain was gone and didnt come back. really really magic-get some tomorrow.

miggy · 04/07/2007 22:28

just been upstairs to look at box, its just called "mouth ulcer treatment"

Mirage · 04/07/2007 23:06

I had a nasty one for weeks.I put TCP on it one night & it had gone by the next morning.

Hope that you get rid of it soon-they are horrid.

PUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BONJELLAAAAA!!

suedonim · 05/07/2007 10:15

Adcortyl in Orabase!! It's the bee's knees for ulcers. If you put it on last thing at night then by morning the acute pain will mostly have gone. Or you can buy Corlan pellets, which are a mild steroid treatment. With those, you place a pellet next to the ulcer and let it dissolve and it takes the sting away.

tjacksonpfc · 05/07/2007 11:17

i would go for corsodol everytime you can get it as a mouthwash and as a gel now aswell ive suffered with mouth ulcers since i was on warfarin after having dd and i always use the mouth wash now it works wonders.

tangarine - probably because of the salt content.

warm salt water mouth rinses are best.

a big vote for adcortyl in oralbase from me too!

anbesol made mine worse, nothing else works, though you could try swilling water and tea tree oil.
