High weight gain on sertraline

I started on sertraline in October 2017 for anxiety and depression, at this stage I was on 50mg.
In March 2018 my dosage was increased to 100mg.
From this, my weight has increased from 8 Stone 10 Pounds to almost 13 stone. My diet hasn't changed much, if anything it has gotten slightly healthier.
If this is related to the sertraline what should I do?

I have been on this for years and never had any weight gain. Could it be that as your mood is better you have eaten more that you think? Mirtzapine is notorious for weight gain but sertraline is an SSRI and can even somethimws make people lose weight.
See you Dr incase your thyroid may be causing weight gain. Are you taking any hormones as they can cause weight gain?

Hi, I've been on it for 5 years now. I have put on some weight (gone up a dress size), but I put that down to not feeling a nervous wreck, and eating more as I feel so much better. Anxiety was literally eating me away. I started on 50mg,, up to 75mg then 100mg, but 4 yrs ago scaled down to 50mg.

Is this the only medication you are on?
I'm asking because I also take this along side other medications and over the years I have put on weight 2 stone, but never seem to go over the weight I am at now.
But I know I would put more weight on if I didn't eat healthy, I eat healthier now than I have ever done. I don't put the weight on but I don't lose any either its a pain

I'm also on Slow Release propranolol but wouldn't have thought that was doing it.
I have had varying symptoms that it could be my thyroid but I was hoping that wasn't the case :(

I put on a huge amount of weight with sertraline. Some people do, it just depends on your individual biochemistry.
Mine was kind of a double whammy in that I was hungry all the time but it also seemed to screw with my metabolism and I put on weight really really quickly.

Apparently beta blockers can cause weight gain as well.

IWantToBeNynaeve · 11/02/2019 17:34

I'm on slow release propanalol for the last few years and while I did put on weight last year that was entirely down to my eating habits and I've recently lost it all again while still on the same dose.

Both can affect thyroid levels, you may have had a slightly off thyroid level before you started which may have begun to tip you over a bit.

The sertaline is inconclusive I think but mentioned it in the leaflet (or certainly did 5 years ago). Beta blockers are used to help bring hyperthyroid symptoms down and reduce conversion of t4 to t3 iirc.

I'd look at both leaflets and chat to your Gp.
