I've had symptoms of hypothyroidism for 6 or 7 years. TSH tests have annoyingly been in range, but have gradually risen, year after year, and are now finally out of range, in the private blood tests I've had. FT4 and FT3 are in range, albeit FT4 is always at the low end.
In addition, my TGAB antibodies are now out of range.
Folate and Vit D are low but I can fix that easily myself.
I have tried to get a diagnosis before now but have had to wait patiently for years until my lab results confirm what my symptoms have always shown.
I need to see my GP and intend to ask for a trial of levothyroxine as per NICE clinical guidelines. But I'm nervous. She hadn't even heard of the antibody tests last time we discussed hypothyroidism, years ago. She seemed very uninformed about hypothyroidism in general. I'm anticipating a brush off but have had enough. I've waited years, knowing that eventually labs would catch up, and they have, but I'm utterly sick of this. My hair has thinned, I'm always cold, tired...you know the score.
I intend to book a double appointment and send her in advance of it the blood results of my private tests, a list of my symptoms, the NICE guidelines and my intention to request a trial of levothyroxine prior to the appointment.
I'm anticipating resistance, irritation and dismissal.
TSH: 5.22 (0.27 - 4.3)
FT4: 13.8 (12 -23)
TGAB: 155 (0 - 115)
I see an endocrinologist once a year for early menopause who also tests bloods: in November my TSH was 4.03 (0.55 - 4.78); not enough to merit any attention.
Any advice from those of you who have had to fight for a diagnosis is welcome.
