Pulse rate over 100

DD had a cold with aches and pains last week. Then she caught a sickness bug that's going around. At the time her pulse rate was 130 - the nurse wasn't overly concerned as she'd recently been sick and been moved to another building. Her pulse was checked the next day and it was 108 despite sickness having stopped. She's 17, slim, eats very well, plays squash 3 times a week and walks approx 80 mins in total a day, so I don't think it's diet or the fact she's not fit. Any thoughts why it's so high in a young person?

How high is it on a normal day? I know mine is very often over 100, so it wouldn't panic me.

As PP, I also have a higher pulse rate, regularly over 100 and into the 90s when I'm asleep. I wouldn't worry too much, some people just beat a little faster!

Does she get anxious about having her bp/pulse taken?

Thanks for your replies everyone. She's a very hard working DD, but doesn't tend to worry about things so hopefully can rule that one out.

She's had her pulse taken again and this time it was 98. She had the sense to mention to the nurse there's a family history of heart disease on both sides, so in view of this she's been referred to the doctor now. Got me thinking, she's often cold, more recently says she's tired (althugh does work and study long hours) and also we know she has very thin veins. I've passed this onto the nurse whose printed it out for the doctor.

My resting pule is generally 61, but DD is far fitter than me so whatever doesn't stop her exercising.
