I will go back to the Doctors but in the meantime just wondered if anyone had any ideas or has ever experienced similar

A couple of months ago went to the Doctors regarding my right ear. For several weeks it had been leaking a clear smelly fluid. Very regularly. Occasional pain but not severe. It also would occasionally Do that thing...not sure what's it called but where it sort of pops when the altitude or pressure changes ifyswim.

Anyway got prescribed a spray to put in ear for five days called otomize even though when doctor looked at ear they couldn't see any sign of damage or anything.

Work fine for a month but it's happening again. Earlier I felt the fluid run down my jaw as it leaked out of my ear! Still getting the thing where if does that pop thing but more regularly than before. Same as before not regular or bad pain though. Although in the night last night I was aware of some pain. Not enough to wake me fully but I was certainly aware of it

Any ideas???

Possible middle ear infection.

Have made the mistake of googling my symptoms and now I'm feeling very worried

So if I had to guess (I'm not a doctor), it sounds as if you have some kind of congestion in your Eustachian tube, have they already said this?

NHS page - is it worth trying the autoinflation techniques mentioned there?

Since the otomize worked, do another course? If the otomise now doesn't help, or it just recurs, ask for a referral to ENT?

I think it's a really good sign that the spray helped first time round.

What have you googled?

Hi, could it be a ruptured eardrum? Your symptoms sound like what my dd would get when she was younger. I would go back to the doctors as you said and get it looked at. Hope you get better soon

@Annandale hi thanks

They didn't mention that no. When they looked at the ear they couldn't see anything wrong with it

And after using the spray for five days which did work, it returned about three weeks later. And has been present since.

Just looked at the link you sent and it says the main symptom is hearing loss which I don't think I have. My ear does regular pop though, like both ears would due to pressure changes

My ears pop all the time, I have Eustachian tube dysfunction, so I basically am prone to ear infections and muffled hearing. I treat mine from the nose upwards with a steroid spray in a brown bottle with green lid (OTC I believe). I've never had any watery discharge but my tubes are blocked before the ear drum so I guess I wouldn't.
