Once again don't know what to do with DS

So I've had so many threads going about my failure hood of mother hood.
Including about DS4s and one in AIBU about this issue but as it's developed I thought this was a better place to get support.
Ds1 18 I have posted about before has very complex and severe mental health problems. And as a result is supper against hospital, he's got another infection. (He is prone to them) and when we've got to this pint before I've either somehow got him to get to the gp and then managed to get anti biotics into him. Or it's sorted it self out somehow or he's got mentally a lot more ill and we've had every emergency service in our house and he's been forced in. I don't want it to get tot this point and never does he but at the same time he really dosent want to be seen. This is what it looks like so far, it's got a hard lump under it the redness has just come up today and his little finger has gone a bit numb. I know it needs treatment. I'm at my wits end at the moment and don't know what to do.

Would he take oral antibiotics if you could get them from a telephone appointment?

Please don't think about yourself being a failure 💐 none of us are perfect and we are all just doing the best we can in sometimes very difficult circumstances.

mindgoinground12 · 31/01/2019 17:50

At the moment no i dont think he will, hes let me dress it clean it and take those photos and thats a major step for him

Would dunking it in TCP be any better or putting on some antiseptic cream? It doesn't look too bad yet. You might get away with treating it at home?

Good luck OP, hope your day is is ok

madroid · 31/01/2019 17:51

**day= ds

PloddingOnwards · 31/01/2019 18:22

I agree try TCP or germoline cream you might be able to treat at home.

Seeline · 31/01/2019 18:27

Keep bathing with hot water and cotton wool, then use savlon or similar. Hopefully that should do the trick.

mindgoinground12 · 01/02/2019 00:01

Its starting to spead down the wrist Sad I'm bathing it in germalone and as ive said im very imprssed hes alowing me to do that.

If he is letting you put germolene on, you could get some antibiotic cream (I have had Fucidin before) via a telephone appointment, or by showing photos to the GP. It isn't as good as oral antibiotics, but still pretty decent.

I am sorry you are dealing with this, but your son is lucky to have you. He obviously trusts you a great deal.

MerryInthechelseahotel · 01/02/2019 23:13

How are things this evening op?

mindgoinground12 · 02/02/2019 00:27

Well I went to the GP and given history (including all his precvious) and photos they've prescribed anti biotics. I've managed to get two into him which to be honest is massive. But it's spreading down his arm and across the back of his hand, I was told to ring 111 if it got a lot worse. He's seems to be going down mentally though which is what I've been worrying about. He refused to see his MH worker today after a phone call and has a appotment with her on Monday but he's saying he won't go. But I did manage to get him to take some of his sleeping tablets so he's in bed. DS4 is with me with at the moment as he's in pain. With his arm so am having a snuggle with a harf asleep 11 year old!

If the red swollen area is spreading, he does need to be seen urgently in case it's cellulitis. Sounds like a difficult situation, OP Flowers

mindgoinground12 · 02/02/2019 12:59

We've already been given the diagnoses of cellulitis

MerryInthechelseahotel · 02/02/2019 18:13

So difficult for you and of course him too. I hope he gets better without needing hospital 💐

mindgoinground12 · 03/02/2019 13:25

Know looking like this try 111 again? We went yesterday and they changed his antibiotics. But that light red across the back of hand came up from last night. Phone again or haven't left anti bs long enough to kick in?

Sorry, have just seen this now. Did you go again? It looks like you should if at all possible

mindgoinground12 · 03/02/2019 19:23

Yes we did, but he got a bit annoyed at appotment and walked out managed to get him back in car and home know. But he's not in a good state. Hopefully I can get him his sleeping tablets and we can try again tommrow.

So DS is actually being quite good at the moment I'm really proud! He said 'I don't care know I just want it sorted'
So basically the wounds opened up and loads of pus poures out, which confirmed my suspicions of an abbses. Which was good, at first the swelling went down so did his pain, but it keeps swelling back up, sort of refilling with pus, then let's it out again, been thy cycle since this morning. As the red ness hasn't improved either, i iPhoned our local gp as advised yesterday fully expecting to be told he needs to go to hospital know. They just said phone is tommrow if it dosent improve, DS know wants it sorted is in agony again, we've been told 4 times know ring us tommrow if it dosent improve, I keep asking at what point will they do something. I don't know what to do. DS getting des up and worried he'll get back into the I don't want to do anything mantra

Update if anyone wanted one!
DS1 is being great and is in getting IV antibiotics with view of maybe going to theatre to get the abbsess drained and It looks like DS4 will be having a operation in the next week to on his broken arm. Sigh. Tough time for my family.

MerryInthechelseahotel · 06/02/2019 21:01

Wow that's an amazing achievement though for him to be there. Well done! It's a tough time but it will be worth it hopefully
