3rd degree tear/4 months PP

Hi I had a 3rd degree tear with my first baby in September. At my 2 week and 6 week checkup the midwife said I was healing fine except for some granulated tissue. At the checkup I still had some gaps healing and was in a lot of pain (the exam hurt and speculum was impossible). Anyways, I am now 18 weeks PP and the granulated tissue has healed and I have been able to have sex with DH, but I still see a small gap near my anus (on the right side, which is the side that I tore down) that looks like it hasn't closed. It doesn't particularly hurt (its not a hemorrhoid, I have that as well). But it worries me that it is something wrong. The midwife didn't say anything about it during the checkup and I assumed it was part of the tear.
So my question is, do external 3rd degree tears go down to the anus/the side of the anus? Is the gap still part of the tear or should I get it checked out to be something else? Thinking of calling the hospital and asking for my birth details to get more information. Anyone else had this happen?

A 3rd degree tear doesn't cross the anus but can be quite close. I'd just book to see your GP. They should have your discharge summary from the hospital and will be able to tell you if it is all looking ok down there. I expected to have problems for much longer with my 3rd degree tear but seemed to heal fine, hopefully yours is the same.
