Anyone had spine fusion surgery? Help!

5th day post op following interbody fusion with cage and screws at two levels. Came home yesterday and although I’ve got a myriad of drugs, I’m in so much pain, constantly and super scared I’ll do something to dislodge the metal work and make it worse.

Has anyone had this done? If so, can you remember at what point the pain starts easing off?

I can’t sit at all, I can lie on my side for up to 30 mins at a time. Standing, and kind of rocking from side-to-side is the only comfortable position. I’ve not had more than half an hours sleep since last Wednesday. And I can’t stop crying, which I’m told is the side effect of the anaesthetic.

Please, tell me this gets better?!!!

I have no advice but hopefully someone will come soon. There was a poster called Seafour who had similar surgery, I believe. Hoping you get some answers soon and that this is all a normal part of the recovery. Thanks

I only had disc removal and bone removed (which I can't remember the name of) and I took months to recover. The anaesthetic can take a long time to leave your body too. I was 49 and unfit at the time so if you are young and fit it won't take so long. Take all the drugs they give you and you should sleep a little more. I have a lot less pain now than before surgery.
