I work I a primary school (run a nurture room with another TA and have 5 children) have been poorly the last 3 weeks with this awful cough, cold and chills. During them 3 weeks I had one day off sick as was feverish and felt sick but not actually sick as in tummy bug just when coughing and it was clear phlegm sorry if tmi. I have managed to dose up the rest of the days and get in.
This weekend although cold has cleared up I have coughed as much as I have been but still felt wiped out and yesterday came up in a huge cold sore which the whole of my bottom lip was swollen and long with slight swelling around jaw and neck. I took ibuprofen and rested. I went into work but managed to get dr's appt later on this morn.
Saw a few colleagues who said I shouldn't of come in as lip looked awful. Explained to my line manager that I had dr's. She is very supportive.
Went to dr's who said glands were up as I had infection and it looked like impetigo as has started to spread below my bottom lip. He said I was to start taking antibiotics and stay off work for 24 hrs. I got him to write it down.
I go back into work to show them report and collect the rest of my belongings. Have to cleared by the Head who doesn't do sympathy and told me I was fine and come back first thing in the morn. I said but that's not 24 hrs. He said 'they just put that, it doesn't actually mean that, just come in as normal in the morn you will be fine by then' He told me to let my line manager know I was going.
I found my line manager who was really understanding and ended up in tears as I had been told to come back in the morning. She agreed with me and could see that I had been unwell, and said she would sort cover and didn't want me in until weds.
I'm now worried that when I phone in sick in the morn which I have to do to follow the correct procedure that it'll be the Head that answers the phone. I need to more assertive and tell him that I will not be in until weds.
I've never been good with things like that. What could I say ?
