Wrist pain

I fell at the weekend and injured my wrist. There is a hard round lump just below the base of my thumb on the inside of my wrist. It is painful around the thumb especially with movement. Was sent to A&E by GP and no fracture showed up but the want me back in 10days for a repeat x-ray. Gave me a splint to wear in the mean time. Any ideas on what it could be if not fractured or suggestions to help me cope with it as it's multi dominant hand and I have two small children 😬 thanks

I sprained my ankle a couple of summers ago and boy it was painful. I had to wear an ankle strap for a few weeks. Only thing that really helped was ibuprofen gel rubbed in gently, and trying to keep some ice on it. And rest it!

Took around 4/5 weeks to fully feel back to normal.

Do you think it could be a sprain?

I'm not sure. Worrying about the bit poking out 😬
Taking regular pain relief but it doesn't seem to do much.

Go back to A&E or your local minor injuries unit. Sometimes they miss the fracture. We’ve actually had this happen twice - first with DD and it was actually A&E that phoned back 3days later after the consultant radiologist has reviewed the xrays and found a fracture. Second time was with Dh and his foot when even an orthopaedic surgeon (after 2 A&E trips and referral to fracture clinic) said that the foot was definitely fractured but it was not going to show on X-ray we’d need to MRI it to find it but that wasn’t worth doing (cost) so just needed to properly immobilise it so it could heal.

When you fell, you may have dislodged a ganglion cyst. They tend to hide in the wrist joints and either pop out of the top or sides of the wrist. I do a lot of yoga and that dislodged one of mine. It was bloody painful. Ask the go to check. They can only aspirate if it's one whole cyst (mine was like a bunch of grapes, so they couldn't aspirate mine) or failing that operate to cut it out. I didn't like either of those options so just strapped mine up and waited for it to go away.
