Last year I had intense pain in my lower abdomen (left side). It lasted about half an hour, I couldn’t walk and it made me sick. The GP said it was probably a ruptured cyst and referred me to ultrasound. An appointment came through about 6 weeks later and the scan showed a 4cm cyst.
A couple of months later I had a follow up scan which showed the cyst had gone and I was discharged.
Last weekend I had two episodes of severe pain in my left side, like the first time. It was radiating down my back and legs and I could hardly breathe during the pain, which fortunately only lasted about 20 mins each time.
The next day I spoke to a GP. He said it’s probably a cyst and that it’s normal. He said there’s no need to have an ultrasound and unless the pain lasts more than a day, I don’t need to go to A&E.
However, everything I’ve read, including on the NHS website, suggests that I should go to A&E for pain like this. I really don’t want to waste anyone’s time but I’m concerned that the GP may not have taken me seriously.
Today I’ve got dull (occasionally stabby) aching in that area and in my lower back and legs and it’s starting to get me down as I can’t focus on anything.
Can anyone advise on whether this sounds right and what might be going on? Am I having one cyst after another in quick succession?
Any thoughts appreciated
