Vertigo with D&M??

user122397743 · 24/01/2019 12:30

Before Xmas, DM suddenly became extremely dizzy and lightheaded. Said she felt like she was being thrown around on a ship.
This was swiftly followed by uncontrollable vomiting and diarrhoea (and I mean uncontrollable).

The GP diagnosed vertigo as high temp but no sign of ear infection.

She slowly recovered and seemed ok.... until this morning! I got a panicked call from her saying she was driving and suddenly became very dizzy. Stopped by side of road where once again lost control - diarrhoea and vomit everywhere.

I have just got her home, cleaned her up and she is now asleep. No temperature but she said her head and ears feel very 'fluidy'.
Can vertigo honestly cause such an extreme reaction?
Can understand the vomiting, but loss of bowel control??

Will see how she feels when she wakes up and may call GP out but in meantime wondering if this could be something else? Noro?

My DM has these symptoms. GP said it was menieres but she had an MRI and they found a chiari type 1 malformation. She has these "episodes" off and on throughout the year but they are becoming more regular.

Hopefully your DM just has a virus.

Thanks Cloud. Something along lines of Ménière's occurred to me too

Did she have medication last time? The stemetil is brilliant for helping with sickness.

Also steaming with Albas oil for a few days has really helped my symptoms if she could try that too?

No medication... reckon they thought it was one off. Once she feels better will insist she sees the GP

Medication was prescribed 'Ben' something which was supposed to calm symptoms. However just had panicked call from her saying whole room is spinning again and her stomach starting to go.

Am about to go over but given she is a good half hour away am increasingly worried about the episodes becoming more regular. Also concerned about her driving especially if the attack comes on so suddenly.

Could it be labyrinthitis? One of my friends had this nad it made her very sick.

I think she's needs to revisit the GP and explain symptoms are not subsiding.

No she shouldn't be driving with this at all, I literally couldn't walk without feeling dizzy in the first few days after the vertigo attack.
