constipation with a rectocele

name changed obviously.

Can anyone help me sort out my constipation? Been to various GPs & had surgery for piles over the years but the root cause never seems to be addressed.

Suffered since I was a child. I go every day with the help of fibre, fruit, veg, water, exercise, coffee, take laxitives (prescribed) if necessary, have the odd colon cleanse, use suppositories and never ignore ‘the call’ but still struggle and now I now I have a fissure.

The problem seems to be that by the time I get the urge, what eventually comes out is hard and dry (first couple of inches anyway), then its normal. Its this plug that causing trouble.

My rectocele is only grade one and I bought a Femmeze to help but it makes no difference.

If i cant solve this plug I can see me getting more piles and fissures and ending up with a grade 11 or 111 rectocele. It took me half an hour to ‘go’ from start to finish today and thats not unusual.

I’m so fed up with it all. My surgeon just says ‘laxatives’ & stent and my GP just says laxatives & water.

Its so debilitating not to mention painful. Im 50, no children, slim and healthy otherwise.

I have a rectolcele and fissure (caused by childbirth!) I feel your pain. I find drinking hot water first thing and last thing really helpful, also you may have already tried this but putting your feet on a step when you go helps things come out more naturally. Sorry if this isn't helpful but totally understand what it's like to always be thinking about this!

Glycerin suppositories may help

ForOldLandsEye · 20/01/2019 22:52

Thanks Olicat. I used to do the hot water thing but stopped, i cant remember why. I also have the squaty potty thing but I dont feel it helps even though i know the science behind it regarding colon alignment.

Im wondering if I have an entricele, as i often feel full but cant go and splinting doesnt help (I dont have a bulge into my vagina.

God its miserable. Good luck with yours.

Thanks Christmas, I still use supositories but my surgeon told me to stop as they intefere with the healing of my fissure.

Damned if I do and damned if I dont really.

This might sound daft but if I can't go I eat red meat... gets me going within 24 hours.
I have a triple whammy so absolutely feel your pain! Fibre and healthy food bungs me right up, red meat, burgers, Steak etc - I can pretty much guarantee I'll be going the next day.
According to the doctor that diagnosed me, I have a flappy bladder and my children have ruined me Grin No idea what grades they are... I was offered surgery for the rectocele but declined. Good job, as I went on to have two more babies.

Hi, I have severe chronic constipation due to nerve damage, and medication I take for it as well. I get the rabbit pellet poo as well, though no urge at all.

What has helped was a referral to the bladder and bowel service - they are nurse led and really knowledgeable. Through them, I have had an improvement with using Laxido, to keep things softer, as it draws water into the bowel. Also, I have been using Lecicarbon A suppositories. They are quite new, and just release carbon dioxide gas, so they are very safe to use every day if needed. Might be worth asking about, as they prevent straining.

Also, I rarely drink due to tablets, but alcohol guaranteed to get things going ha!

Very interesting Lyrebird1 Sorry to hear about your nerve damage. Was it birth related? Ill investigate the laxative and suppositories.

I dread trying new things as quite often they bloat me horribly and/or give me the runs.

Ive cut down on red meat but might start again now. I dont drink either but I might start if my situation doesnt improve soon!

I’m going to ask for a regeral to the bladder and bowel service. Thanks very much. Never knew that existed.
