Never ending cold - anyone else?

I got a really horrible cold on 13 December. I was so unwell I was off work for four days. Since then it’s come and gone in waves, and today I feel like I am right back at the start again. I went and spoke to the pharmacist today who said it’s A Thing this year. Anyone else? Or if you came out the other side, what helped? I was ill all over Christmas and am BORED now!

For context, I’m a teacher, so am exposed to a lot of germs. But surely I am not just catching fresh colds constantly? I am usually in good health, other than IBS which is managed with medication, I eat well, healthy weight, and do about 18,000 steps a day. I don’t use public transport, and am religious about hand washing, particularly at work.

YES! Have had it for two months now. Keep thinking I can't feel worse then I get another wave of feeling like death 😥

VitaminD tablets have really helped me. And probiotics. Used to have at least 3 really bad colds a year and a couple of bouts of tonsillitis. A year later, I've had one minor cold which was manageable, no time off work - touchwood

That is not good news, jumped! Have you seen a doctor? My DP keeps on at me to go, but I feel like it would be a waste of time, plus it is so hard to get an appointment anyway.

I am already taking probiotics from the health food shop with eleventy-billion live bacteria. Today I got some propolis stuff on their advice. Vitamin D is now on my list!

YES! I have had this for three and a half weeks. Started as a cold (week 1) became a cough & runny nose (week 2) felt coldy but better then developed a cracking cough (week 3). So. Bloody. Pants.

No I've not because I just think they'll say it's viral and I don't like taking antibiotics... there's not much choice after that really, ha! I've started to take those vitamin C effervescent tablets to see if it can help boost my immune system. Anything's worth a shot at this point! cough, sniffle

Yes, first week of December for me. I think I am about a week away from shifting it. (Fingers crossed)

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 14/01/2019 21:50

I feel selfishly reassured that I am not alone.

First week I n December for me to and straight after I had the flu jab. I do know they are not related and I probably caught the bug in the waiting room but I'm not sure I'll have the flu jab next year!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 14/01/2019 22:15

We get the flu jab at work, and it has definitely been no help.

I started with cough at Christmas that did not really develop into the hacking cough many have had. It is still hanging about, dry sore throat and intermittent coughing spasms, preceded by feeling really hot and 'ill'then wears off. Have a day feeling o.k.then it comes back??odd

Stardustinmyeyes · 15/01/2019 07:07

I read this last night and yes I have it too.
This is the first morning I have woken up and been able to breathe normally. I've had it for about 2 months, dry hacking cough. I ended up buying a humidifier and I have it running all night, it's really helped me. It's awful and you have my sympathy. It will go away eventually.

DiaryofWimpyMumm · 15/01/2019 13:37

My son, whose room is next to mine has had the cold since before Christmas, all I hear is him coughing. It just seems to be viral though so haven't phoned the doctor, well I actually tried at 8am this morning and all appointment ms were taken
