Gastritis anyone?

A gastroscopy showed I had mild gastritis. I was not actually told I had it but because I had another condition my doctor printed off the report for me hence me seeing I had gastritis. Should I be worried? I googled and only saw negative things which scares me. Would like to hear from anyone who has this without reading stuff on the internet.

I have gastritis too and was prescribed omeprazole for 8 weeks my understanding is this will give my stomach time to heal.

Ask Your Gp about Medication?

Had it after a stressful period of life. Felt like someone was tightening a corset around my rib cage. Omeprazole for several months cleared it up. Occasionally reflux since, but now I’m pregnant horrible heartburn

Gastritis is just a term that means inflammation of the stomach lining, can be caused by infection or irritation, because yours is mild I wouldn’t worry too much a short course of omeprazole or another ppi should clear it up.

I have gastritis. I go through phases where it’s fine and others when it’s actually been rather debilitating. It really should be treated as if left to become chronic can lead to Barrett’s oesophagus. I had an initial course of PPIs and I still take them for about a week if I get a flare up.

I was given PPI's to take after my gastroscopy for 4 weeks but because I suffer from acid reflux which was the reason for the gastroscopy in the first place I didn't question it. I was not told I had gastritis. I took the meds for the four weeks but about two months later I had awful pain come on under my left rib which lasted on and off for about four days. My doctor said it was acid but as the pain subsided she didn't give me anything as she said it wasn't a good idea to take ppi's too often . I have taken them in the past a few years ago. How do you all manage it? I feel ok most of the time. I have cut out tomatoes and onions. Do you all cut out a lot of foods? Can it actually heal? Asking questions here because internet googling always gives me the scary answers !! Thanks for replies

It’s rubbish that you shouldn’t take PPIs for a length of time, I have a condition that means I have to take them for life, you should take them for as long as you have the problem, the refluxing acid will do more halm than taking PPIs I would see another doctor if I were you. Gastritis will heal as long as you keep the acid under control, Cafine and fizzy drinks are massive no no’s for me as is bread.
