Unhappy after braces

This is how my feet look after braces ☹️☹️
Although they're straight, I now speak funny and my mouth just looks weird when I speak.
Haven't had a follow up appointment yet.
Any advice? Do they look weird to you?

Is the photo of your bite- how your top and bottom teeth align or it it a pose?
I would have expected the orthodontist to make sure your bite was correct once the teeth were straightened. Your upper teeth should nest in front of your lower teeth. If this isn't the case speech can be affected and the teeth can break and get over worn

Thanks for your reply. Just re read it and realised I posted 'feet' not 'teeth'! 🤦🏻‍♀️
Yes, this is how they are, not a pose. The bottom ones seem to flare, if that makes sense. They don't go straight up, they kind of lean forward.

i'm a retired dentist do you have a before photo; teeth are not straight up and down they are normally angled forward about 5 degrees
you can't alter where the bone is so perfect results not always possible
adult orthodontics is harder than on children somewhere you should have a treatment plan of what they hoped to achieve
if you had an anterior open bite before this is very very difficult to correct on an adult it is hard in children too

Hi OP. I used to be a dentist. Was your orthodontist a specialist or just a general dentist?
If the after pic is genuinely how your teeth meet now it doesn't look like a satisfactory result to me.
Was it supposed to be a comprehensive course of ortho treatment or was it '6 month smiles' or similar.
Were you told that you wouldn't get a 'perfect' result at the outset?

I think they are lovely (AND WHITE!!). I had fixed braces as a teenager and all for nothing as my bottom set are really crooked.

downundergirl · 14/01/2019 21:56

No, I had the braces on for 18 months, bottom ones a few months more. I went to an orthodontist. She never said anything them ending up like this. The worst thing for me is how I speak now. My mouth really looks peculiar when I speak.

I'm not an expert in ortho and it's hard to tell from a picture but I think you should either go back and tell the dentist your concerns and/or go for a second opinion. Your before picture suggests your teeth met at the front albeit they were crooked and now it looks like your bite is worse.

Hi there. I currently have braces, I've gone for the 6 month smile. I think you know that this is not right and for it to effect your speech certainly isn't. You have every right to go back to the orthodontist and express your disappointment and ask for it to be corrected-do not take no for an answer!
I'm sure it cost you alot of money and as with any service you have a right to complain if you are unhappy. I would also get another orthodontist to give their independent view. If your orthodontist is not willing to correct it you can take it further and make an official complaint with the backup of your independent review.
I say this purely on the bases that your speech has been effected, therefore the treatment has caused you harm.
I hope you get it fixed very soon!
