Having surgery tomorrow, terrified? (Pictures)

So I almost cut my thumb off with a kitchen knife whilst cutting things up, I got a bit too cocky with the knife ended up going in my thumb.

Ended up going dizzy, blood went everywhere, could just about see my bone and i ended up ringing an ambulance (lost a lot of blood)
Ambulance was going to be an hour, so it was much easier to get a lift up there (plus more friendly on the nhs) Just before I left I double checked to see if there was any bits of my thumb lying about (yuck) luckily it all seemed to be attached.

Walked in a&e doctors were expecting me went through to trauma, they cleaned it up, gave me super strong pain relief, took a good look, bandaged it and jabbed my arm with a tetnus shot. They decided its best to let a plastic surgeon come to look and in the meantime an x-ray was needed.
Waited around for 2 hours whilst surgeon dealt with another more serious trauma and he came to see me.
I will deffiently need surgery he said somethings been damaged but luckily the bones fine.
He bandaged it up again and cleaned it. Told me to come back monday morning and it will be for surgery.

He never told me what type of anaesthesia will be used nor about not eating/drinking before hand.
I'm terrified this is my first surgical procedure and all i can think about is developing sepsis.
All weekend ive been worried they sent me home with a deep open wound, to go back monday? They gave me antibiotics but still I'm so paranoid an infection will occur.

Just so worried havent slept all night, anyone here developed sepsis or had a similar injury? Would love to hear how your operations went, the recovery?
Thank you all Smile

Op I don't know anything about hand surgery but that photo is from before they saw and treated you right?? It is redressed and not bleeding now I hope.

Just posting to say I hope it all goes well. DD might need surgery tomorrow too :( Ask as many questions as you need to when you get there, they will be understanding and take as much time as needed to make you comfortable.

If you've had antibiotics you won't get an infection. You'll be fine. From the look of it you might have a local anaesthetic so you won't have to fast for it. No need to be paranoid - you've done some damage and the surgeon is going to fix it. The worst is over already - you cutting yourself was the scary part. The rest is just a simple repair procedure.

Probably too late now but if they're worried about tendons/nerves then you'll probably need either GA or regional anaesthetic (where the anaesthetist numbs you're whole arm by doing an injection in the neck/top of the arm) just because it can take quite a while to find all the bits and if they do need to do any repairing then local just in the wound won't last long enough. Fasting rules are 6 hours for solids and 2 hours for clear fluids (although some places are more flexible with the fluids these days). From an anaesthetist.

('probably too late' meaning that I'm probably posting too late for it to be useful for you, not that they're doing anything too late Smile!)
