Gunky eyes in 10month old

10 month old ds has had gunky eyes for about 2 weeks. They started off as part of a nasty cold, I took him to the doctor as he was quite ill, she said it was a virus and to come back if he got worse. He is now completely better but wakes up every morning with his eyes stuck together. They aren't pink and he doesn't rub them except when they're stuck. Don't really want to take him back to gp as he's clearly not ill - is this normal? Any advice?

My DS had very similar recently. I am not a doc and obviously cannot diagnose, but my doc suggested a bicarb solution (1 teaspoon in a mug of water) on cotton wool to clean DS eyes with as a less invasive alternative to antibiotics. Breastmilk is supposed to be good too.

Hope it improves

if you are breastfeeding try putting milk in his eye.

Thanks both for your advice. Don't have any bicarb so have just tried the breastmilk before putting him to bed (think I need to brush up on my hand expressing skills!). Henrybaba, hope your ds is recovered now
