Urgent to non-urgent?

Hey, I'm currently on the waiting list to have a total thyroidectomy since October 22nd. my consultant put me on the urgent list because there is other procedures I need that can't be done until the TT is done. ( I completely understand there are others more important and need to be seen sooner this is just simple curiosity) I had a call in December and was given the 11th for the Op but then was called the next day to have it cancelled saying I wasn't urgent as urgent and was given to someone else. I asked her then if I had be put on a non-urgent list now but I didn't get a reply. I am seeing my GP on the 21st but I'm just really curious and can't find anything online. Can they switch you from urgent to a non-urgent ? Tia 😍

I suspect it will largely depend upon why you're having it done. The urgent list would usually be for people with thyroid cancer. If yours is for thyroid cancer, then your delays sound pretty awful. If not, then a manager has probably pointed out that the urgent list is for the cancer patients. The time of year doesn't help: with all the funding cuts, when the bed crisis gets worse in winter, then the less urgent stuff gets pushed back, which must be very frustrating.
