Think I have tonsillitis, gp? *warning gross pic attached

Woke 2 days ago with very swollen glands in my throat and struggling to swallow, quickly progressed into fever and chills, sore head, whole body aches and falling asleep. Can’t move from my bed today, it hurts to even swallow tea, taking solpadine every 4 hours for pain and noticed my tonsils are swollen and have white patches on them. How do I know if it’s bacterial and I need to see a doctor or viral? Really need to get on the mend and back to work on Monday.

Definitely GP or walk in centre.

I would just go. You are in pain and no way of knowing yourself if it will heal.

I had this last year and stupidly got it in my head that it would pass on its own, swallowing even my own saliva felt like shards of glass, I had a fever and would frequently wake up in the night having soaked the sheets with sweat and was severely dehydrated it lasted 11 days!

I don't know what came over me not going to the GP!

I have tonsillitis at the moment and had to go to the walk in last night. Gp wouldn’t give me an appointment but that’s another thread lol. It was affecting the rest of my body (aching all over obv from the infection/fever) and felt rotten. That’s what made me go. I have antibiotics and thankfully have started feeling more human in the last hour or so.

Thanks ladies, can’t see gp until Monday unfortunately so will see how the weekend goes. Still bed bound with added crippling stomach pain and throwing up anything I manage to eat on top 😩

Definitely either Tonsilitis/Quinsy.

Quinsy is usually one sided with yellow lumps and Tonsiliitis covers both in yellow lumps.

Get the walk in centre!

Phone your doctors surgery there should be an answer phone message to advise you what to do if poorly over the weekend.

I think you’d be totally justified in an out of hours gp appointment for this level of poorly. Personally I wouldn’t be waiting til Monday.

Yes def tonsilitis. As a long term sufferer and now my kids are the same this is one of things how to know when an antibiotic is needed. Pus on the tonsils.

Definitely make an out of hours app. The sooner you get the medication the sooner you will start to feel better. Hugs to you.

Noooo don’t wait til Monday. Apart from the sheer misery it will worsen and could become quinsy, which is dangerous. Get an OOH or walk in. You have my sympathy, tonsillitis is awful

Yes go to the out of hours. My DP had this last year, plus a temperature of 42, he was delirious and actually tried to attack me for trying to cool him down (as per advice from the 111 call advisor) as he didn't know who I was.

It turned out he had Quincey and ended up in hospital for 8 days plus severe dehydration as he wasn't even able to swallow his own saliva. Go now!

We don’t have walk in centres where I live. My temp is just under 38. I’ve spoken with 111 who said to see my gp if there is no improvement by Monday but that it’s likely viral and to take paracetamol 🙄

I’m not sure why I’m suddenly being sick either, if it’s related or another bug on top 😔
