Polycystic ovary & cyst

Okay, left ovary is polycystic and the right ovary has a cyst.

I am 33 (just) and have mirena coil (the last 4 years)

I had scan results yesterday, bloods and have been referred for emergency scan.

Is this all routine?

Give us a chance!

Why did you go to the doctor in the first place? Was the first scan an ultra-sound? The bloods are normal procedure. There's one called Ca125 which is routine for ovarian issues. It's not a good diagnostic test, unless it's very much higher than normal. Sometimes you get the blood test first, via your GP, and then get referred for an u/s.

Is it a CT scan you'll be having? This will give a more detailed picture of whatever they're interested in - probably the cyst on the non poly cystic ovary. They usually do this if it's not a 'simple' cyst, but 'complex'. People have simple cysts all the time. They usually disappear on their own. Complex cysts aren't necessarily malignant, but they'd want to keep an eye on them or remove.

At your age, it's much more likely to be benign than malignant, but better safe than sorry. They always work on the worst case scenario. If it's an urgent scan, it should take place within 2 weeks and then you'll have to. wait up to another 2 weeks to get the results, depends on how busy they are.

Waiting is the pits, but at least the 2 week pathway means you'll know sooner. Try not to worry. Most referrals turn out to be fine.

Thankyoufor replying. I had a scan on 11th Dec. I have been away so went for results yesterday.

I asked the lady who did the scan (untrasound) If all seemed okay and she only mentioned the cyst so when I was told about the polycystic I was shocked I think and it's sent me into panic mode a bit. Iv has swab and up to date with smear and thats all fine.

Iv got to have another ultrasound and call on Monday re bloods... if "level" is high the doc wants to see me but if it's normal she will see me after scan.

Depending on what scan says will be weather she refers me to gyne consultant she said
