Nervous about Dr appt

user58359009 · 02/01/2019 00:50

I found a lump right next to my anus about a week ago and it hasn't disappeared so I've finally conceded that I need a visit to the doctor. I've never needed any sort of physical examination or to undress (am under the age for smear tests) in a Dr appt so quite nervous.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but what actually happens? Will I be expected to take my clothes off or just pull my trousers down? Will I be lying down or is it likely to be a very quick thing? Will they even need to examine it at all or just ask me questions?

Please put my mind at ease

I would think they'd need to have a look. You can ask for a chaperone to be in the room (another doctor/nurse) or take someone with you if you feel comfortable asking a family member or friend.

Make sure you tell the doctor you are anxious about the appointment and ask them to talk you through it if it will help.

Your doctor will take a look at something they have looked at thousands of times before. Just relax. This is no big deal.

You will most likely to be asked to remove the clothes on your lower half, (in the curtained off area on your own) when you are ready you then to lay on the bed with knees up to chest, you will probably have a sheet over you, the doctor will gently lift the sheet and take a look. They will leave the curtained off area, you will get dressed. All very quick and easy. I've had my bottom area looked at more time then I can recall. Embarrassing but you'll get over it.
