Being sick from coughing

Hi all looking for some advice from people who have been in similar situations.

I started having a cough around the early December (picked up from the kids) didn’t think much of it until I started loosing my appetite and it started getting worse so I went to the doctors 2 weeks before Christmas and they said it was viral.

The next two weeks it got worse and worse and every day since the 23rd December i have been sick from coughing. I’m dizzy and having night sweats too. The last time I ate a meal was Boxing Day (which came back up anyway) even though I’m not eating I’m still being sick from coughing. Been back to doctors they won’t give anything but this has been going on for almost 5 weeks now. I have 4 children 3 under 5 and I am struggling now. I have no energy from not eating and I’ve lost 9lb since the 23rd of December.

The doctors just don’t seem to want to listen and the more I read the more worried I get that I should get a second opinion on the hospital? Please has anyone had this cough like this? I’ve tried - Day Nurse, Benelyin, Beechams, Viks Steam bowls, have a humidifier on, Honey and Lemon, warm lemonade etc etc.

Also does anyone have a suggestion of something I can eat that won’t come back up I need the energy?

Thank you for reading

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well.

I've had a cough which sounds similar and has lasted around 2 months but is slowly getting better. I have been sick from coughing, when I get into a coughing fit. I find this is worse at night and I need to prop myself up quite high in bed with pillows to reduce the coughing.

Is yours worse at night or are you being sick all day? If you drink warm soups does that help soothe your throat and allow you to get some food in you? If you're coughing mostly at night time I would try to eat more earlier in the day if you are able to. Hope you feel better soon!

Could be whooping cough.
Dh hasnt had a cough but has been ill for 5 weeks, like you lost weight night sweats aches and debilitating fatigue. Finally bullied him in to ooh doc due to chest pain, turns out he has a partially collapsed lung, chest infection and fluid/inflammation around the heart caused by the infection. Yet he’s had no cough or mucous.
go to out of hours and see if they will X-ray, night sweats fatigue and zero appetite are all symptoms of pneumonia. Our GP were useless, didn’t even listen to his chest!
