Fat foot - could I have broken it?

I just stepped outside yesterday and my ankle/foot 'went' and I collapsed in agony.

I have sprained my ankle before and at first I thought I'd done it again, but a lump came up on my foot. It's very painful, the swelling is now a bit flatter but over all my foot. Could I have broken a small bone?

where is the lump, avalon?

Avalon · 02/09/2004 13:45

The lump was on the outside of the foot about half way between the ankle and the toes. There was a red mark under the skin and quite a pronounced lump. The rest of the foot has now ballooned up to match!

I'd definitely get it checked.

sounds like it might be broken, though sprains can swell that much too. If you're unable to walk, I'd go to A+E for an Xray.

Thanks for the advice.
Just got back from A+E. I have broken my foot (the fifth metatarsal) and it has to stay in plaster for 3-6 weeks. They've given me crutches and I'm not allowed to drive. Fortunately Mil will take the kids to school and bring them back. Dh is back tonight and then off again to Copenhagen Sunday night.
I forsee lots of hopping trying to get the housework done!

I broke my leg 18 months ago and it's been really serious, I'm sure your break will mend much quicker. But the main thing is that now you can sit in front of TV or read a book and no one can criticise...practise saying this, 'MY LEG HURTS'.

For goodness sake, there has to be some advantage to it so be without compunction getting others to run about after you You might never get another chance like this so to hell with martyrdom!

Incredible!
They told me to take paracetamol.

avalon, if my experience is anything to go by, take ibuprofen (nurofen) as I have found it far more helpful that paracetomol for my injury.

Avalon · 03/09/2004 00:26

Thanks anorak.

How did you get up the stairs? I'm crawling.

You could go to the gp if it still hurts badly and get some diclofenic or something similar, they are quite strong.
