Hi all after some advice. Last Monday (Christmas eve) my daughter woke up with a high fever just over 39. Next day still the same rang 111 and saw a dr who told me just a fever the next 2 days her temp came down managed to eat a bit and play then again the high temp came back so rang 111 again saw a dr who said prob was just another cold she caught straight away. Today not had a high temp been a bit more active but just checked her temp and 38.4 body hot again. Am I being a paranoid mother or would anyone suggest seeing a dr again. She is never Ill but this has really knocked her.

Are you saying she has had a continuous fever for 6 days? Or has the fever broke at any point (without use of meds)? Also how old is she? Does she have any other symptoms, runny nose, cough, sneezing, rash etc

It broke for 2 days. The fever has now stopped she's still very sleepy but think it will just take time to get over also she has now got conjuntivitis! She's 4 next month.

With you there. My 8 year old DS currently has a temp of 38.9 and is feeling dizzy/headachey. I've done the usual and checked for rashes, checked he can put his chin to his chest and look at the landing light etc. Just given his last allowed dose of Calprofen and hoping the temp will go down soon...

38.4 is within the high but ok parameter I think, as long as she's ok-ish in herself. It's awful when they are ill and you don't know if you should be seeking help or if you are just being over cautious!

Ah OK, I have had that situation once where it broke for a day or two and then came back again. Anything longer than 5 days of fever should be seen by a doctor again. It does sound viral like the gp said but just keep a close eye (as I'm sure you already are), plenty of fluids.

My ds had this, he's 8. Just 2 days of a high temperature, no other notable symptoms. Must be a virus going around.

I worry if it looks like it's heading to 39/40 and would rotate between both ibuprofen and paracetamol. I often find one is better at keeping the temperature down. Keep her fluids up and cooly dressed but don't try to get the temperature down with water or anything like that. Hopefully it's a virus she will be over soon but if you're ever unsure call 111. They've always been really helpful whenever I've called them.
