I woke up in the early hours of Christmas Day and struggled to pass urine as it was so painful and because it was difficult to go.
I ended up getting up and going back to bed 5 times in very quick succession and was horrified to find that my wee was very bloody with some clots.I called 111 and they advised me to go to the hospital as I felt I desperately needed to wee but I couldn’t.
Once I was in hospital I was able to urinate normally with no evidence of any blood.I was discharged and given a 3 day course of antibiotics (Nitrofurantoin) which caused me hideous side affects. I’ve also been referred to go for a scan within a 2 week period.
I’ve obviously googled and now I’m worried sick, I have also been a smoker, please can any one help to reassure me in any way?
Thank you x

Wowserme, please try not to worry, I often have the same thing happen to me so much so that I always have a 3 day course of trimethoprim prescribed for me to have ass I need it. I have never yet had a water infection discovered in any urine sample I have given in. Even investigations by the urologists have drawn a blank other than to say I have an easily irritated and very overactive bladder. Like yourself, the urge to go for a wee will suddenly appear and be painful and burning on attempting to pass urine. These symptoms can last anywhere from a few hours to a few days and then go just as suddenly as they came. Try to drink plenty of fresh water and cordials to keep your bladder flushed through and steer away from caffeine and fizzy drinks and alcohol until you have had your scan and got your results. Hope all goes well.
