Chest pain

I've had a cough and been coughing up disgusting stuff for about a week but yesterday I started having pain sort of under my left breast. It's not constant and I wouldn't say it was excruciating. Not sure if it's related or overindulgence.

Obviously I have ha and worried it could be my heart. Is it worth a trip to ooh?

All chest pain needs to be investigated but chances are if you’ve had a chesty virus and been coughing up mucus it’s related to that. Heart related pain typically feels like a crushing weight in the centre of your chest or radiating along your arms / jaw.

I would seek medical advice to reassure you and you may need some antibiotics for the chest infection.

It's possibly its pleurisy related to a chest infection. It'll hurt like hell. If the stuff you're coughing up is green at all you need to seek medical attention, but as PP said, all chest pain needs checking out. No one would begrudge an A&E trip for chest pain.

Our nearest a and e is an hour away but I could go to ooh which is nearer. I think to put my mind at rest I should go

Yes go to ooh. Hope you feel better soon.

Bobbiepin · 26/12/2018 10:06

Oh, if you can take a sample of what you are coughing up that would be useful.

Fairylea · 26/12/2018 10:38

Good luck.

Pleurisy is incredibly painful!

Hope you feel better soon.

IWouldLikeToKnow · 26/12/2018 11:46

It's most likely related to your chest infection given what you've said. Definitely worth a trip to your closest facility.
To the previous poster who described "typical" cardiac pain, it's worth noting that many women who have a heart attack don't present with that typical type of pain.

anxiousanniekins · 26/12/2018 12:23

Thanks for replies. It's not heart related or my chest. Very likely to do with anxiety and stress as usual 😔

The coughing up stuff is coming from my airways

Bless you, I also have a horrible coughing virus and feel rubbish, I now have chest and back pain. I also have HA, not sure if the pain is cough related or anxiety in my case, probably a combination of both. It's really hard I think, to know when to seek medical help when you have HA. I try not to go for anything unless I've had it for more than 8 weeks or it's a total calamity, missing limb, passed out from pain type thing.

anxiousanniekins · 26/12/2018 14:13

It really is so hard because you don't want to waste anyone's time but then you think what if is really something wrong this time. I drive myself crackers. Just started therapy so hopefully it's going to help

Oh I hope so, what are you having, CBT?

Yes, it's really hard. I have to be very strict with myself but the anxiety still creeps in.

anxiousanniekins · 26/12/2018 14:29

Yeah I've had 2 sessions so far just looked at relaxation and been given a leaflet to read

Could it be costochondritis? Sometimes coughing and sneezing inflames the muscle and cartilage between the ribs causing pain in the ribs and sternum
