What can you do for a 10mth old with diahera?

Hi all.
DD is 10 months and has come down with diahera. I dont think she's ate anything different from what she usually has. But its come with bad nappy rash and every time I change her she cries in pain poor dear. WE've switched to cotton pads and water for the rash just to get most off then put her in a very shallow bath to let the water clean it to avoid the pain of wiping, BUT is there anything I can give her to get this gone. I know there is some stuff called pedia-lite which is like an ice lolly and they have drinks too but I think thats for toddlers. Any hints from you mummys out there??

It's awful, isn't it? It could be teething, but either way, just do what you're doing now. No baby wipes for the bum, try and dry her after each nappy and whack on your favourite barrier cream, be it Sudocrem, Vasoline, whatever. We find Savlon to be very soothing as well, although not a barrier cream per se. Is she throwing up? I would follow the MN patented BRAT diet, i.e. Bananas, Rice, Apple and Toast. Water as well, and nothing else til she's feeling better.

My youngest often gets a terrible sore nappy rash when he has lose bowels, mostly when teething. I have found two creams that really work, and I mean really work. Metanium is the best. If I apply it in the evening the rash is totally gone by morning. Bepanthen is another good option. I only use these creams if the rash is really bad. Otherwise, sudocream or any other barrier cream will do.

I'm using Aveeno now and the BRAT thing sounds like a plan...her appetite has plummited today. and I'll get the hair dryer to blow cool on her bum to dry itup. Thanks mums.

And I do think she is teetheing..I never thought they could be linked...

Oh god totally, teething is a classic cause of unexpected bum disorder (or UBD as I might rename it). Not to mention nappy rash. Hipp Organic do a bloody good apple and pear pudding which my ds still adores when he's teething (aged 2) - you can't go wrong with a bit of this. And milk plus totally plain food until she's perked up a bit.

The crying is absolutely awful, btw. I remember my ds crying out in pain "mama mama" even though it was me hurting him It soon passes, though, and is worse for you than dd. If you have a Waitrose nearby, I did find some brilliant bum balm in there.
