What do you do for a 5 month old whos been violently sick twice in the last 3 hours??

Ds4 is never sick, aprt from the 10pence worth that comes up with a burp but he's done 2 massive vomits since about 2pm.

Not sure whatto do for one so little....I can't stop all food/milk at 5 months, can i??

I did when ds2 got a D&V bug at 5 months. He wasn't weaned then but we did stop formula (he was still partially bf) and we used diarolyte until he started to pick up - about 24 hours later I think. You could try diluting the milk so he is taking more fluids. Have you phoned your GP or practise nurse? Ours is usually very helpful with stuff like this. HTH.

Is he BF or bottle?

Poor little thing, my dd2 had a nasty bug when she was tiny, she was bottle fed so had to stop milk and just give her water for 24 hours.

Gp receptionist told me to ring NHS direct.

They said to feed him little and often or dilute his milk abit.

He's only just weaned, with one veg meal at lunchtime.

I would forget the veg for a bit and just concentrate on fluids. If it gets very severe then diarolyte is really good and ds2 really seemed to like the blackcurrant flavour so it was easy to administer.

DS1 got a nasty D&V bug when he was 7 months old, and I was told to give him watered down formula & plain food like baby rice cakes etc.
It's worrying when they are so little isn't it?

My dd has just had a sicky bug and got dehydrated this weekend. She is 3, so a bit different, but she's had it several times. Keep fluids going - little and often like they say. If he's being bf, then breastmilk is fine, but formula's not. Forget the veg and just keep doing fluids. Even if he keeps on being sick, at least some of the fluid will be going through. Keep an eye out for dry nappies as a sign of dehydration. Also try the capillary test - squeeze one of his fingers and see how long it takes to return to normal colour. If longer than 2 seconds, then he is dehydrated. Parched lips also a sign of this. Keep an eye on temp too and cool him off with a flannel if he does have one.

if BFing just BF as and when
If one bottles water only for 24 hours and then very dilute milk (one scoop for every 5 oz of water)
DS had a couple of bad D & V episodes when he was 5/6 months old
diorylite (sp) is good as well - you can buy over the counter

Make sure he just sips at the water. If they drink it too fast (and tomorrow he may be thirsty and apt to gulp) it'll just come straight back up.

he's been alsleep for about50 mins and unusually he's in a really deep sleep.
Normally if I move his chair or touch him he wakes up but ATM he's just stirring....

Not sure if thats a worry or not...I am starting to though!

They do tend to sleep deeper when poorly IME, but ringing NHS direct for advice may not be a bad idea, just to put your mind at rest.

give dc a oz cool boiled water at a time to keep dc hydrated, if not call emergency dr.

Has he got a temperature? Any signs of dehydration, a dry mouth for example, lethargy when awake?

yes, PC I sdpoke to them earlier.

I just woke him up and gave him some water....willl let you know if it stays down.

Hi PC, I had a rare night out last night after all this so DH was on sick duties.

But there wasn't any more sick

I discovered today what caused it though...My lovley baby, my gorgeous little man is about to get a tooth
I can't believe he's growing up this fast.
I want him to stay a baby forever.

Ds2+3 were alwys sick if they were teething so it look slike ds4 will too.

Poor little chap was beside himself earlier and I didn't hpave anything to give him.
I got some of that ashton and palmers teething powders after I picked the big ones up from school and he's back to his normal self now.

Awww, poor little thing! Glad to hear he is back to his normal self now though.

I remember wanting DS2 to stay gummy forever, but they do look so cute when they get their first couple of teeth! DS2 just had two bottom teeth for ages before anymore appeared, and he looked so sweet!

It's horrible to see them in pain when they're so little though, isn't it?
