Sinusitis - WWYD re antibiotics?

I've had a cold which started 10 days ago. It started to ease off on day 3/4 then came back with a vengence the following day and i have all classic sinusitis symptoms.

Went to pharmacist as soon as i suspected it on day 5,Sudafed spray and decongestant used. Thought it was easing and woke in the night with horrific sinus pain that travelled to back of skull. i couldnt walk or talk with the pain. Pharmacist suggests docs as sounded bacterial.

Went to docs today, they were reluctant to prescribe antibiotics but gave me a prescription if it doesn't improve in next few days and go and collect it. I believe they would rather i have 14 days of symptoms. I have 10 days altogether.

Tonight i have pinkish mucas and i feel a bit fluey. Cold and achey. I get waves of intense pain i cant walk or talk.

I'm tempted to take the abx now given the pain im in and pink mucous. Conscious of abx resistance.

I had sinusitis once 6 years ago and passed huge clots of blood and couldn't walk with pain. Abx sorted it.

Wwyd?

Not great evidence for antibiotics in sinusitis full stop. But you do sound pretty unwell with it. If you do start them you need to ensure you complete the course so maybe try steaming and keep up regular analgesia and Sudafed and see how next 48 hrs go?

Take them and get some beconase too. I had sinusitis recently and did not want to take antibiotics, but after struggling for 2 weeks and then fainting in Asda I did take them
. Sorted me out on about 4 days (finished course of course). I also did saline irrigation and the clumps
Of bright green , semi solid , bloody matter were fairly eye opening !!

Sudafed pressure and pain tablets from the chemist have sorted sinusitis twice for me. You have my sympathy as sinusitis is hell!

Take them!

[Flowers] you have my sympathies. I've suffered with chronic sinusitis for over 10 years and as a result my sinuses are damaged (they actually crackle each morning if I press under my eyes and I have to nasal flush to reduce post nasal drip) IME sinusitis is very rarely bacterial and therefore antibiotics don't really work. My best home remedies are a bowl of boiling water with Vicks vapour rub in and steam out as much mucus as you can. Sleep propped up to allow drainage. If it's not too painful, massage the congested areas to encourage the sinus to drain naturally. You can buy nasal douching kits from some pharmacies. It's not pleasant but it does work. Plenty of fluids and take all the pain relief you can. It's a flipping awful pain (especially when it gets into your ears and teeth). I hope you feel better soon!
