Childhood insomnia?

Is this even a thing? My daughter has just turned 7, she finds it very hard to get to sleep at night (has always slept badly since birth, didn’t sleep through until she was 3). She often lays awake for hours on end despite saying she feels tired.
She looks awful, very pale and huge bags under her eyes and trying to wake her for school is becoming increasingly difficult. She is currently being assess for asd and I’m wondering if the two things could be related.
Is there anything the gp could give her to help her sleep or anything I can do? We have a strict bedtime routine and she goes to bed at the same time every night.
I have insomnia myself and know how awful it makes you feel but I can get over the counter tablets or stronger stuff when needed and she can’t!
