I’m taking codine for severe abdominal pain due to gastroenteritis and last night the a and e doctor recommended I take a laxative to combat the side effects of constipation brought on by the codine. Has anyone got any recommendations? TIA.

Lactulose. Its a softener more than a laxative. If I take codeine it can be like pushing a square peg through a round hole so lactulose eases its passageGrin
Try that before going nuclear.

Lactulose or Movicol.

Lactulose just makes me horribly gassy and bloated so my recommendation is Movicol. I took a sachet every day while on Ondansetron which has the same lovely side effect of constipation.
