Is there anything I can do to avoid being ill this Christmas?

I work in school and every year, struggle through the last few weeks of term with low level cold type symptoms, break up, have a couple of days getting set for Christmas then Christmas Eve I go down with something that keeps me in bed for days. Last year I was in bed with flu for nearly three weeks and not properly well until February! But I often have a 48 hour fever or sickness bug.

It's as if as soon as I relax and the stress leaves the bug rushes in. Is there anyway to prevent It?

Have you had the flu jab? Eating well, getting enough sleep, staying away from kids (I know right) and necking a bunch of vitamins might be your best defence.

However, even vitamins cannot stop you getting poorly. They can help your body to work at its best which in turn can support your immune system.

Washing your hands is the best way to avoid catching viruses, keep unwashed hands away from your eyes, nose and mouth, always wash hands before eating. Use wet wipes or antiviral hand sanitizer after using shopping baskets, trolleys, opening and closing shop doors etc. Then wash your hands as soon as you get home. Eat well, keep warm, keep your home warm but not too hot and ventilated. Get a bit of fresh air and exercise daily. Sounds odd but don’t wear outside shoes in the house. If you use public transport take your outside clothes off as soon as you get in. Don’t put your handbag or shopping bags on tables or kitchen work surfaces.
I’m not obsessive, I have an immunocompromised DS, I hate viruses with a passion. Hope you stay well over Christmas!
