I know they prefer you to be in the middle of your cycle because I think the blood can hinder the sample under the microscope.

ElizabethMainwaring · 09/12/2018 20:29

I'm pretty certain that you will have to cancel and rebook. It needs to be done mid cycle.

SnuggyBuggy · 09/12/2018 20:32

I don't think they can get accurate results if you are bleeding.

AmeliaMae · 09/12/2018 20:36

You would be better to cancel.

JustWingingLifeAsUsual · 09/12/2018 20:37

I had to rebook mine as I came on (I forgot what date I was last on so I couldn't determine when to book the appointment).

Lottie7777 · 09/12/2018 20:51

Hi. I just had mine done. It was right at the end of my period and the nurse said blood was present but was happy to do with the proviso it may have to be repeated if the lab couldn’t process it. They could, all was fine.

ineedhelpa · 09/12/2018 21:00

Thanks everyone. I think I will cancel and rebook, I just hate cancelling last minute

If you haven’t got much bleeding tomorrow then you will probably be fine to have it (it will depend on the nurse and what she can see when she has a look at your cervix and if she thinks she can get a clear sample).

The only reason they really say “mid cycle” is because they want to try and reduce cancellations, it can be done at any time.

ineedhelpa · 09/12/2018 21:16

Thanks - I think I might wait until the morning as first couple of days are usually really light for me so I'm hoping it might be okay. I just want it over with so really hoping I'll be okay

I’ve got mine tomorrow too - also a bit overdue!

I’m also dreading it. You’d think going through IVF and having adorned a speculum many times throughout that I would be used to it by now!

I hope you can have yours tomorrow. Good luck.

ineedhelpa · 10/12/2018 17:57

@osirus hope it went okay for you.
I cancelled; have rearranged for after Christmas.

Hi, it went ok, a bit more uncomfortable than my previous one but it seems to depend on who’s performing the test. It was over quickly though and I’m glad it’s done.

Good luck for when you get yours done; it’s never fun but at least it’s quick.
