Infected sebaceous won’t go - and doc won’t lance it!

Infected sebaceous cyst. Really sore maybe 2 x 3 inches. Had it since Saturday. Antibiotics not working. Doctor said they would never lance it and not to pop it. What do I do? I’m limping!

If it is really sore go to A&E. They'll sort it out.

Twinkletoes77 · 06/12/2018 21:48

Thank you - what does sort it out mean? Pop it and drain it?

Pics are mandatory

cutthegraa · 06/12/2018 21:51

Why aren't we seeing this?

(Sorry you are in pain)

VanessaShanessaJenkins · 06/12/2018 21:53

Do you not know the rules?
(Impatiently waits for pics)

HalloumiGus · 06/12/2018 21:56

Ouch that sounds agony OP. At that size you need to go to A&E. I had a small one years ago and GP said if I had waited till it was bigger they would have had to send me to A&E to sort it. I think they do a minor op on them- they don't just drain it but I think maybe they remove the little 'sack' it forms in otherwise it can refill. Have you had them before? If so definitely get in and get it sorted.

Twinkletoes77 · 06/12/2018 21:58

Never had one before. Had the cyst for about a year but it only swelled up this weekend. Believe me you don’t want pics!

Yes we dooooo

Waitingonasmiley42 · 06/12/2018 22:05

I'm now watching in the hope of pictures...

Hope you get it sorted soon Thanks

justforthisnow · 06/12/2018 22:06

There's an actual SOP in place op which stipulates photos. Otherwise no valid opinions. Not my rules but there you go.

AnnaMagnani · 06/12/2018 22:08

It doesn't need draining or lancing, it needs excising properly.

Go to A+E with it. If it's v big it's needs doing in theatre.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 06/12/2018 22:09

Believe me you don’t want pics!

Believe us, we do!

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 06/12/2018 22:10

What sott of dumb arse doctor won't lance it or let you pop it? There's no way I could resist. I'm not sure that even the threat of blood poisoning could deter me!

OP, I think you need to go to A&E if your doc won't sort it.

GrandmaSharksDentures · 06/12/2018 22:12

Isn't it funny that a highly trained GP who has seen & assessed the OP knows nothing compared to MNers who have read 3 lines of OP on the internet?

Holidayshopping · 06/12/2018 22:14

My DS had an infected cyst and ended up at A and E as it was so painful. She had a temperature and was quite unwell with it.

They sent her up to a ward and removed it then and there under a local anaesthetic-it hasn’t ever come back.

tenbob · 06/12/2018 22:47

I think we need to see pics to give proper advice...

SunshineOutdoors · 06/12/2018 22:52

Hope you’re ok (but also here for the pics if I’m honest)

Fontofnoknowledge · 06/12/2018 22:59

Another one rubbing thighs in expectation of a lovely pic

pinkcarnations · 06/12/2018 23:07

Draw a line round the red part with a biro, if it's not getting any smaller in a day or so make an emergency doctors appt or go to the urgent care centre. I had an infected one on my chest and needed 2 types of antibiotics to get rid of it. They don't like to excise it while it's infected as it's difficult to get it all out and the infection can spread deeper.

Branleuse · 06/12/2018 23:08

Need pics.

From different angles

headinhands · 06/12/2018 23:09

First time my cyst became infected the go lanced and drained it. That was about 22 years ago. About 15 years ago he cut the whole thing out only it came back as they do sometimes. I went back 3 years ago but they had to refer me to a surgical day clinic as the go had stopped doing those procedures. Did your gp explain why they won't lance?

PurpleWithRed · 06/12/2018 23:11

Are you sure it’s a cyst? I think we —sporners— highly trained mumsnetters need to check for you.

Ollivander84 · 06/12/2018 23:39

@GrandmaSharksDentures TBF the hospital told me with a severely infected underarm abscess "not ready to lance and not infected"
I got home an hour later and lifted up my arm and touched it and the thing burst and absolutely stunk. They then said it will heal and doesn't need stitches
8 months later I still had a hole in my armpit. But I've more experience with my own abscesses than the doctors have so I know mine will always need plastics to stitch them as I don't heal wounds!

Twinkletoes77 · 07/12/2018 14:11

Went to doc. She stuck a needle and tried as much as I could bear but it wouldn’t pop. So I’m to try stronger antiobiotics now. Yay! (In the sense of, not yay Sad)
