Advance gaviscon. Is it ok to keep taking daily?

I have been back forwards and backwards to GP over last few months with reflux / LPR symptoms. Very stressed with it too. Have tried omprezole and it made no difference. I find gaviscon advance helps the most so take 2 spoons full at bedtimes. I know I need to go back to GP and plan to after christmas but in the mean time is it ok to take daily. I’m trying lots of dietry changes too but at 6st 6 I’m worried I might fade away.

Yes, fine to keep taking it. I'd glug it after meals as well if I were you.

Your GP really needs to help you sort it. Have you tried Lansaprozole? (can never spell it right!)

Thanks for reply. Is lansaprozole more effective than Omeprazole? I knew you take the ordinary gaviscon long term but wasn’t sure about the advance

I have Gaviscon Advance on repeat prescription and take 8 spoons a day so presumably it's fine to keep taking it.

I had to guzzle down the gaviscon when pregnant. What I later found out though is that calcium hinders the absorption of iron. So up your vitamin c and iron rich foods.

Do you cloudyweewee . Can I ask how long you have been taking it and if you take anything else too? Interested to know what you are symptoms are please

I'm taking Omeprazole as well. I was referred to the ENT by my GP as I'd had a sore throat for a month and nothing would clear it up. My voice was also becoming quite croaky and I had often has sharp pains which felt like I was having a heart attack. The ENT doctor said it was caused by reflux. I started on the Omeprazole and Gaviscon Advance back in March and haven't had any more symptoms.

I had pregnancy sickness and took omeprazole and ranitidine together for reflux and gaviscon. Hope you manage to get to the bottom of what's causing it though x
