Bruise under nail?

Hi
I don’t remember injuring my nail but could have...I’ve had this for at least a month. Am I needing to be concerned with moles etc or is it just a bruise?!

Bruise under nail?

It looks bruise like to me. I think sinister bits under nails are more defined and darker. I currently have a bruised toe nail from marathon running. I'll put a photo on for comparison.

Post marathon bruised nail.

Does that help at all?

Thank you - yes I think so -
I just wish I remember hurting it!!

I'd get it checked out- a month is a long time for a bruise.

Newname9 · 05/12/2018 21:27

Thanks Penhaligon - perhaps I should

Do you think it is moving up ie: growing out or not? My bruised nail has been like this 6 weeks already.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 05/12/2018 22:46

It took about 3 months for a bruise to grow up the nail. The key question is whether it is moving up the nail (good) or staying still (get checked out).

CatherineCawood · 05/12/2018 23:40

Agreed if it is moving up that is a positive sign if not time for GP.

Newname9 · 06/12/2018 07:27

Ok thanks- I don’t really know so will keep an eye on it and see if it moves up

@CatherineCawood I have similar looking index toes after some very long runs, can I ask does the bruising fade or do you wait for it to grow out? Mine have changed various colours but were really really badly bruised and wondering if I should get them checked...

It eventually grows out, failing that it falls off. I lost one nail entirely within 2 days of the marathon. I lost the same one in February after a half. I think this one will just end up growing out. Its going a really funny shade of orange!!!

Cheesycheesytwist · 06/12/2018 21:23

Thank you, I'll just wait for it to grow out then :-)

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 06/12/2018 22:21

It grows out, although when the top bit of the bruise gets to the end I could clean the rest of it under the nail so it didn't look as bad.
