In so much pain but there is nothing there

I’m having another sleepless night because of an intense burning pain that’s under my arm. It’s like someone is holding a hot iron on it but there is nothing there. No red marks or rash, the skin is slightly dry but nothing to cause this pain.
I saw a doctor on Tuesday who poked and prodded it then gave me 1% hydrocortisone Hmm
Does anyone have any idea what this can be?

That sounds like a nerve type pain, not sure what to do about it but I've heard it described as a burning.

How long have you had the pain? I had pain similar to that when I had shingles (the rash developed after the pain). Agree it sounds like nerve pain.

I thought it might be shingles too but there’s no rash just the pain. It’s been there for the last week and a half getting steadily worse.

Poor you. This sounds extremely unpleasant.

One thing, shingles commonly presents without a rash. Get the

Sounds like nerve pain though. Can you get stronger painkillers from GP and a referral to neuro if it continues?

If it is gets bad, do go to A&E. Don't suffer at home.

Thanks for your comment. I have gone back to the doctors and seen the nurse. She immediately said it was shingles and that the rash should appear in the next few days. I’ve got an assortment of tablets and much more comfortable now- especially now I know what it is I was beginning to think it was all in my head!

Glad it has been diagnosed. Hopefully you'll be more comfortable now.
