My Dad, don't know what's going on!

Okay so my dad, 80 lost his vision Friday evening & had facial pain down one side of his face. My mum rang 111 & they arranged transport to hospital to get him checked out. He's on various mess for high blood pressure, he's also got a pacemaker for irregular heartbeat. They were there for hours, they took bloods & let him go, with no real explanation as by this time he was all back to normal.

Saturday my sister went over, he seems confused with headache. I get a txt from my other sister this morning, mum found him walking around the house, with her coat on, all the lights on, the cooker on, moving the toaster & kettle around the kitchen at 3.30am. He doesn't know why & doesn't remember doing it.

I went over this morning, ambulance there as I didn't want them to wait hrs for a dr. Dad seems confused. He thinks it's Friday. This is not like him at all, He's NEVER confused, it's usually my mum that's confused & doesn't remember things!

So he's been taking back to hospital. The last I heard they're going to do a head scan, which I would've thought they would have done the first time. The paramedics are stumped at what's happening, they said it's a bit of a mystery? My dad said to my sister yesterday that he feels like it was a mini stroke he had Friday evening. Hopefully the head scan might give us a clearer picture, or maybe not. But it's worrying nonetheless as this isn't dad at all.

Sounds like a TIA

rainbowruthie · 02/12/2018 13:59

Has he been checked for a urine infection - they can cause confusion for elderly folk

LoniceraJaponica · 02/12/2018 14:04

A UTI wouldn't cause blindness though. A stroke could. I hope they find the problem OP, and that he receives the right treatment Flowers

A TIA definitely. This happened to my Aunty recently, she's 82, lost the sight from one eye but thankfully it did returned shortly after. Never had high bp but on this occasion it was really sky high. Now on bp medication and being followed up.

Sorry, no of course a UTI wouldn't cause blindness - I was just thinking about the confusion

Hopefully the scan will give the doctor a better idea of what happened, he might have had a little stroke, I hope he recovers quickly.

itbemay · 02/12/2018 19:32

I'd say a TIA 'mini stroke' hope he's ok op

Aura migraine

So they did a brain scan, he's had a stroke. They said he's got a bleed in the brain but it's not in the 'usual' place which is a concern for them. By the sounds of it he has become even more confused. They are keeping him in hospital & he will have another scan tomorrow. My sister said he's not good. At least he's in the best place & they can keep him under observation.
