Hoping someone can give me a lead on where to take this. I broke my ankle 18 months ago, not a complicated break, but didn’t realise it was broken for a week as I could sort of weight-bear, so in retrospect might have done more damage in the meantime. Bone healed fine after time wearing a boot. Went straight into physio, starting gently in water, building up to ankle strengthening exercise. Was still getting pain coming up the outside line of my leg and in the ankle.
Got referred for an MRI (had work private healthcare), nothing much came up apart from the risk of a nerve being trapped in my ankle with overpronation. Got orthotic insoles which eased the pain. Have been left with a general periodic ache in ankle and up the leg, but better than before.
Now - jarred my foot playing football with my son - a hard hit caught it awkwardly (but not on the broken bit) - and I’ve now got a deep achiness all the way up the side of my leg and at the ankle break point, same place as before but worse and constant.
I dare say it’ll settle down again with some rest, but I’m left wondering what has happened to the nerves in my leg from the break, why nothing came up on the MRI (should it?), and whether there’s anything I could do about it now to not continue with this underlying ache and weakness.
Any suggestions? My past physio kind of gave up on me after the mri showed nothing, and i was over the threshold of the private healthcare so was costing too much without a clear goal in sight. Any ideas would be gratefully received.
