How many times have you called NHS Direct?

and then wished you hadn't

DD was acting strange and spiked a fever .. very disorientated / sleepy (3 years old) complaining of tummy ache for about a week (which I've been ignoring as malingering)

Temp going up after nurofen dosing

So called NHS direct only to freak out at the 'if she can't hold her head up you need an ambulance'

And now, awaiting nurse call back, she's running round like nothing happened

arrgghhhhhh

(still hot though)

Diddn't they tell you to go to A&E - that seems to be the standard response when I phone them

lulumama · 21/06/2007 19:37

everytime i have phoned, they have referred to out of hours GP or A&E

RubberDuck · 21/06/2007 19:38

I don't bother phoning NHS Redirect anymore, I'm afraid. Just go straight to GP or out of hours docs if I think it's urgent, or adopt a "wait and see" approach. Can't think of one good reason to phone a service which always takes ages to get a reply then suggests going to see your GP/out of hours/A&E anyway.

Curmudgeonlett · 21/06/2007 19:39

yeah you're right .. I suppose I call because I feel like I@m doing somethign

I would say, given your list of symptoms, that I would take her to out of hours GP. Especially as nurofen isn't bringing it down and she's acting strange.

Could be a wee infection type thing if she's been getting abdominal pains, maybe? Sounds like antibiotics may be on the cards either way, and you need a real live doc for that.

Only called once (well, told my mum to) when DS was accidentally OD'd on paracetamol - they just got us to weigh him and told us he'd be fine
