Hi. I'm exclusivly breastfeeding my 7 month old and I have a stinking cold and am feeling very sorry for myself! The worst part is a very very painful sore throat, everytime I swallow it feels like I'm swallowing razor blades!! I know there is nothing much I can take, two pharmacist and nurse practitioner confirmred this, when I was there for the conjunctivitis I also have!!! But can any wise mum's net people share any tips they have for coping with sore throat without medication??
Many thanks

Paracetamol is perfectly safe.
Gargle with salt water too. I also found ice cold coke to be really helpful, somehow!

Feel better soon, sounds miserable :(

Paracetamol should be fine to take? Icy drinks/ice cream!? Also

Paracetamol and ibuprofen are safe, as are strepsils etc which will help. The throat sprays are also fine. Look up drugs factsheets on the breastfeeding network, many GPs/nurses/pharmacists are under informed about what you can or can use whilst feeding and tend to employ the blanket rule of “absolutely nothing” which is simply untrue. You can take decongestants etc as they dry up secretions (milk being one!) but theres lots of other stuff which you can take!!

..posted early, you’ll be giving specific immunity to your baby which made me feel better - like taking one for the team! Hope you feel better Flowers

I had this when breastfeeding and had a throat spray. The doctor said it was perfectly safe and it really did help x
