Anyone had Tailbone/Coccyx pain?

A month ago I noticed an unexpected pain in my coccyx after sitting for a long period of time. I didn't think much of it, but since last week it had got much worse and developed into a dull pain on 24/7 where I can't sit down, accompanied by constipation. I've been to GP who said take ibroprophen and buy a doughnut cushion. I'm very worried as I have not fallen on it, so it's not an injury. GP checked my anus for lumps but there were non. Not sure where to go from here, I'm worried it will never go as there must be something wrong. Anyone else had this out of the blue?

Try a chiropractor. They can asses whole body and spine, including the coccyx (and adjust where required). It’s quite a common thing, which I have myself experienced. I too didn’t have a trauma causing it.

Oh wow really? Surely there is a cause? Does it get better at all? I'm baffled by this as it's so uncomfortable.

Yes there can be many causes. The coccyx moves like any other part of the spine, it can become pushed forward/move back or multiple other directions.

Repetitions of movements likely play a part too (for example if you have a pattern of crossing legs one way always). These patterns could be over weeks/years before they cause a pain we feel. I’ve always had coccyx pain around the time I’ve had problems with my joints either side of sacrum at base of spine (SI joints). So when my whole pelvis (everything around the coccyx area) has been moving disfunctionally.

Always had much relief after 2-3 Chiro visits. Now just working on building stability in my pelvis and body as a whole, to hopefully stop same pattern reoccurring.

I did. I was in the very early stages of pregnancy

I suffer from coccydynia which is inflammation of the coccyx. First had it as a teenager then disappeared for years, but has recently started up again. Seems to be worse after sitting on certain seats and is most painful when going from sitting to standing. Ibuprofen helps a little

Oh wow thanks everyone. I am not sure if it's my sacrum or coccyx that aches I can't tell. It seems to radiate to the rest of back and even legs too. It also aches and hurts in bed. Do you think this pain will settle down? Tmj but is it possible I could have damaged it having sex? I can't think what I might have done. Can it heal?

I used to have terrible coccyx pain - regular Chiro has kept it away for years now. That was such an awful pain. Definitely can be fixed tho

redsky21 · 23/11/2018 20:57

Mrs mines not caused by an injury, just spontaneous inflammation. It does come and go but I would give it another week of taking regular anti- inflammatory painkillers (ibuprofen) and avoiding sitting on hard surfaces or sitting for too long before going back to the gp.

Thanks so much. I feel reassured and educated! Also TMI...I have been constipated for a while.
Is it connected? Do you guys get constipation with it?

Yes with pregnancy and off/on since
