I think DS has oral thrush - is there anything I can I buy over the counter?

I think DS (14 months) has oral thrush, he's been picking at his food and has big white patches on his tongue.

Are there any home remedies or anything I can buy over the counter to sort him out? I can't get a doc's appointment for ages. Or do you think this warrants an emergency appointment?

There is something availiable over the counter, its a liquid that you paint on. I have used, but I'm blowed if I can remember the name of it. it tastes aniseedy

Thanks Saltire - if anyone can remember the name of the medication I would be grateful!

nystatin. If you can't buy it over the counter, then I think you should get an emergency appointment. Oral thrush is painful, can make it difficult for him to eat and sleep, tell them that when you make the appointment.

I just spoke to a friend who said her baby was prescribed Daktarin - anyone know anything about that? Or is that only for tiny babies?

I think daktarin is another name for the same stuff.

saltire · 21/06/2007 12:59

Daktarin that's it. I have been racking my brain for ages trying to think what it was called
