Changes in periods. Help!

I had a copper coil put in just over a year ago and for a while my periods were okay but for the past 7 months they have been god awful. Massively irregular, sometimes 3 weeks between periods or up to 7 weeks. They change from overly heavy, so much so I'm flooding a tampon in 5 minutes, and lasting 9 days or sometimes just a standard period lasting 4 days. The cramps now can have me dropping to the floor unable to move and keep me up at night, as well as waking me up. Ovulation has also become incredibly painful. This is all starting to frustrate me as it's impacting on my work as I'm having to take days off due to the pain. But when I am in work I'm covered in heat pads and needing to take codine every 4 hours just to be able to function.

My periods before this were reguar as clockwork and extremely light, lasting 4 days.

I don't know if this is just because of the coil or something else and don't want to waste doctors time just to be told this is normal as I'm awear periods can get worse with the copper coil. So has anyone had any similar experiences with the coil or could this be something else?

Hi pinkskys, I'd go and ask your GP if I were in your situation, especially as it's so bad you are having days off work.

It might be your coil, it might be something else like stress, but they will be able to help you.
