Asking doctors/nurses about stethoscopes

My niece is almost finished her nursing degree and has asked for a new stethoscope for Christmas. Any suggestions on what you like or would like would be greatly appreciated!

Littman is the standard brand that most HCPs use. I have a Classic III and a Cardiology III.

Thanks for the reply SockQueen, what is the difference between classic and cardiology? Would either work, regardless of where she is placed for her preceptorship (she has asked to be in surgery, but doesn't know her placement yet). Is there an advantage to one or the other?

The ideal stethoscope depends a bit on what she's using it for - I'd ask her specifically which one she wants. Remember that some places (especially HDU/ICU/infectious disease areas) may not allow HCP's own stethoscopes - the patient's bedspace gets one that is used by everyone.
